Joe Anderson, Mayor of Liverpool, has welcomed the return of Lib Dem Lord Mike Storey to the political fold in Liverpool.
Lord Storey, the disgraced former Leader of Liverpool City Council who lost his Council seat in 2011 following humiliating local election results, has been appointed as the Liverpool Lib Dems campaign director.
He is charged with halting the Lib Dem collapse in Liverpool. The party now have just 10 councillors remaining, and have lost hundreds of members and tens of thousands of supporters across the city following their entry into coalition with the Tories, and their support for trebling tuition fees, destroying the NHS and cutting taxes for the rich.
Joe said: "Lord Storey was forced to stand down as Leader of the Council in disgrace. He was then hammered at the ballot box by our 18 year old candidate."
"He’s now an unelected Lord. No-one has actually voted for him, and he has no mandate to speak on behalf of any of the people of Liverpool who have roundly turned their backs on him and his Lib Dem friends."
"So it will be with much delight that I take on Lord ‘Ha Ha’ Storey, and to ask him whether he thinks there is any link between the fact that he now represents no-one, and the fact he has joined in a Coalition Government which continues to hit Liverpool’s services with massive cuts "
