Liverpool Labour Saves All Liverpool Childrens Centres

Liverpool Labour has announced plans to save all of Liverpool’s Childrens Centres threatened by closure following Government cuts.
The plans, announced today, mean that four childrens centres which were under threat have been saved, and will now remain open.
The centres – at Church & Mossley Hill, Hunts Cross, West Derby and Childwall & Woolton – were facing possible closure as the City Council struggled to meet the massive, unfair and unjust cuts which have been targeted at Liverpool by the Lib Dem-Tory Government.
But following six months of public consultation, and a series of meetings between Labour councillors and parents and staff of the children’s centres, an innovative scheme has been developed which makes the same levels of savings but keeps all of the city’s childrens centres running.
Joe Anderson – who personally visited each of the children’s centres and met several times with staff and parents – said he was pleased that a solution had been found, and thanked the parents and staff for their supportive campaign.
Joe said: ‘We have worked tirelessly to find ways to keep these centres open, and I’m pleased we’ve been able to find a solution which saves all of the centres.’
‘The parents and staff deserve credit for the campaign they have run. When I went to meet with them, it quickly became clear just how much they value these centres.’
‘They were clearly very anxious about the future of their centres, and yet at all times they way they conducted themselves has been tremendous.’
‘We still face massive government cuts, and putting them in place will be very difficult. The Lib Dems in Liverpool need to start telling their leader Nick Clegg that he should reverse these cuts, as opposed to saying they agree with them.
'But we have said all along we will listen to people when it comes to putting these cuts in place. That's exactly what we've done. I am pleased we’ve been able to save the children’s centres.’
