Liverpool City Council has confirmed it is in negotiations with the Government over a pioneering 'City Deal'.
Labour's council leaders in the city have been in detailed discussions with ministers since last September after being asked to bring forward a series of 'asks' to give the city more power and resources to drive economic investment, employment opportunities, jobs and regeneration.
In total the deal would be worth £130million investment into Liverpool. The Liberal Democrats in Liverpool have opposed this investment.
Joe Anderson said: "The Government came to me last autumn and asked what additional powers and resources we would want, and we have spent the last few months negotiating hard with them."
"We are now in negotiations over a deal that, I believe, will enable us to make a real and positive difference to the prosperity of our city, and give all our residents the chance of a brighter and better future."
The Liverpool Labour Party has now arranged an all member meeting for next week, when Joe will discuss the proposals with party members. If you would like to attend this meeting, please contact your CLP or branch secretary, who will pass on the details.
