Liverpool Labour's newest councillor, Councillor Louise Ashton-Armstrong, is visiting Liverpool Town Hall this morning following her victory last night in the Fazakerley by-election.
The by-election was held following the sad death of Cllr Jack Spriggs in December 2009. Speaking after her victory, Louise paid tribute to Jack, and said his would be a hard act to follow but she was pleased to be continuing Jack's good work.
Louise gained 1,525, outpolling the Lib Dems by over 700 votes. The Lib Dem candidate gained 807 votes, with the BNP coming third with 234 votes.
The by-election victory in Fazakerley is taken as a sign that Labour's support in its key areas remains firm.
